Building extension and installation of loading bay canopy
The design
Fegg Hayes Pottery a family run company based in the heart of the potteries instructed us to extend and make over the existing building, to suit the company's expansion requirements. We doubled the floor area of the building with the extension, installed a loading bay canopy to remove the problems of water ingress to the building whilst loading; and finally overclad the facade of the existing building to match the new cladding system.
The first and possibly most important factor to consider was the ground conditions, as the site was built on typical potteries filled land. To overcome this it was decided that A Raft slab and footings should be used. The foundations would take the form of a steel reinforced ground beam with integral reinforced floor slab, onto which the steel framed building was constructed and clad with Kingspan insulated panels.
